William Reeve

William qualified as an accredited mediator with the London School of Mediation in 2021 and joined the LSM Faculty in 2023.

He is a former BBC foreign correspondent, editor and producer, who has since worked as an independent consultant advising governments and other organisations on how to optimise their strategic communications, especially at challenging times.

William spent many years reporting for the BBC from Afghanistan, at first when the Soviet Red Army began its withdrawal from the country in 1988, then during the time of the mujaheddin government, followed by the first period of Taliban rule. Soon after 9/11 in 2001, he set up and managed the first training programme for Afghan journalists in Kabul.

He then began working as a consultant in Afghanistan, Iraq and elsewhere in the Middle East and Africa. Projects have included public awareness campaigns, qualitative and quantitative research, and setting up and managing training programmes for officials and others who need to work effectively with the media.

Trustee of the Rory Peck Trust, which is dedicated to the support, safety and welfare of freelance journalists around the world.

Education

William qualified as a civil engineer after graduating in engineering from Leeds University and working in Iran and Lesotho.  He then graduated in Oriental Studies at Oxford University before joining the BBC World Service in 1978.
