The Training Courses

Why Train With Us?

LSM is delighted to celebrate more than 18 years of offering acclaimed accredited civil and commercial mediator training of the highest quality and repute across the UK and internationally. We are very much looking forward to meeting you and assisting you to become accredited, and then onwards into practice, through this demanding and challenging training.  We began as the European Training Team and became Clerksroom's mediation course for some years, before incorporating and adopting the name LSM in 2007.  We moved from the original three day format to five days of training in 2009 and since then have been at the forefront in innovation and the development of mediation worldwide.

The full 5 day course has developed a wonderful reputation as a world-class training course and the feedback reflects that. We are confident that we can train almost anyone from any background at any level - on a recent course we had a 20 year-old graduate and a  retired Judge working and learning side by side with florists and firefighters, surgeons and solicitors, international peace keepers and business-people.

It is, though an intensive course. You will get tired and some may wonder, at the end of the first day, whether they can take the pace.  The intensitiy of the course mirrors the intensity of a mediation. It is a necessary challenge we throw down and the learning supports this throughout the week. Our tutors and assessors are always available to help and support delegates during all stages of the course.

Fear not!

More than 4000 mediators worldwide have gone before you and succeeded - and their feedback is that sheer immersion is the best way of learning. That said, please let us know if you feel that you are struggling or that you need more work in a particular area - we will make time for you. Our policy is one of inclusion and diversity with career-long support.

Approach

This course is not only about learning mediation, it is about developing all round business and vocational skills and doing so in a convivial atmosphere where we encourage you to hang up any professional hats, wigs, gowns or instruments and start to look at your approach to communication, problem solving, solution finding, negotiation, listening and questioning in new and exciting ways. You have our full permission to relax and enjoy this course. Feedback from those who did is available - 100% of delegates in the last year gave the course the highest recommendation!

Method

You will learn and be debriefed in small groups with a high tutor/delegate ratio. You will learn from the sub-optimal approaches of others and others may learn from yours. Please let us know in advance if you may feel embarrassed or concerned about your actions in role-play being unpacked. Finally, there is no dress code - wear whatever makes you feel comfortable.

Suitability

These courses are not just for lawyers - in fact 75% of places are taken by non-lawyers. We are specifically encouraging business managers, international peacekeepers, psychologists, coaches, educators, medics, clinicians, HR professionals, accountants, insolvency practitioners, cost drafters, business consultants and students of law, business and HR to attend. Our courses are for people to learn about the process of mediation and the subtle skills of a dispute resoluton practitioner. Our alumni use these skills in many ways beyond the course.
